New recipes to honor roman chewing candy’s mules!

The Roman Candy Rum team has been hard at work developing some amazing drinks to honor the animals that have pulled our weight for decades!  And while concocting delicious drinks doesn’t hold a candle to what Roman Chewing Candy’s mule does on a daily basis, we think she would approve.

The first animal to actually pull the famous Roman Candy Wagon was not a mule at all, but actually a horse.  His name was King and he was bought by the original candy man, Sam Cortese, in the 1930’s.  King pulled the wagon for roughly 10-15 years before Sam bought a mule in the late 1940’s.  Kate was the first mule to ever pull the candy wagon and she pulled for 20 years! By the time Kate decided to retire, Sam had retired as well.  So his grandson, Ron Kottemann, took over and bought his first mule, Sarah.  Over the last 50 years, the wagon has been pulled by several different mules each and every one with their own personalities, likes, and dislikes; and each and every one has been loved and appreciated.
